A close call for a homeowner who finds an armed intruder in his home overnight and was nearly shot, had it not been for a malfunction.
Police say they were called to the 4300 block of Fountain Springs Grove at 3:14 a.m. on a report of a burglary in-progress. En route to the call, police were notified that a homeowner found a armed intruder inside his home and was actively fighting with the intruder.
Police say the intruder was armed with a gun and tried to fire it at the homeowner but it malfunctioned. The homeowner was able to then hit the intruder with a baseball bat, disarming him.
When officers arrived, the suspect was arrested and taken to the hospital for a head injury. The homeowner was not injured.
Police say they're not releasing the identity of the suspect because the investigation is ongoing. He's being charged with attempted murder.
