The county coroner has identified the body found under a trailer in Manitou Springs as Crysta Chisolm of Colorado Springs. Her death was ruled a homicide, but the precise cause of death remains under investigation.
The 32-year-old woman's body was found wrapped in a blanket and tied with rope around 12:40 p.m. on Monday, March 12. The body was discovered by two men hired to remove the trailer, which had been owned by Howard York, who was arrested last month for allegedly robbing a pizza place with a machete.
The property manager, Ruby Yoho, says she had hired workers to remove the trailer at 15 El Paso Blvd. because it hadn't been lived in since York was arrested.
Officers with the Manitou Springs Police Department secured the scene once they verified it was a human body. They also contacted the Sheriff's Office to help in the investigation.
Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. Mike Schaller says that the Sheriff’s Office has a standing deal with MSPD to investigate in these situations.
Neighbors in the area were shocked by the discovery.
"It's very unfortunate that the human animal has to kill...just to kill where as an animal out in the wild kills just to survive," Rebecca Hughes said.
Detectives from the Sheriff's Office are continuing to investigate this homicide. Anyone with information is asked to call 390-5555.
