There are nearly three hundred registered sex offenders living in El Paso County, and all are required to stay current on information so you and officials know where they are.
Usually this is done throughout the year; this is the first time the sheriff's office has condensed it into a three-day period.
Since Tuesday, El Paso County Sheriff's officials have knocked on almost 270 doors of El Paso County sex offenders, verifying addresses, phone numbers, and job status.
“We just go through make sure they're complying, and that nothing has changed,” said Sgt. Robert Jaworski.
Sergeant Jaworksi says they were able to make contact with all but about fifteen offenders this week. He says most are cooperative, but he still tells his detectives to be careful when approaching their homes.
“Don't ever think a sex offender can't be violent, because I've been through it when they are,” said Jaworski.
Two arrests were made during the three-day operation. One on an outstanding warrant, the other because the offender provided false contact information.
