Authorities in Pueblo County are looking for a man involved in an early morning chase near a Pueblo West neighborhood. John Kenneth Anthony Cruz, 27, is wanted on a string of charges in towns across southern Colorado.
A sheriff's office report says a deputy tried to pull over a car without a license plate at 7:30 Friday morning near Highway 50 and Purcell Boulevard. The driver of the car sped off into a neighborhood near a school. Citing concerns for public safety, the deputy broke off the chase, but later found the car parked along a nearby road.
Gabrielle Abeyta, 19, was behind the wheel and reportedly told deputies she switched places in the vehicle, but that Cruz was driving during the chase.
A witness then told investigators they saw a man in a white T-Shirt running through back yards on Simla Drive. A woman who lives on the street said a man used a river rock to break a window and then dived into the bedroom where she was sleeping with her 4-year-old son.
Deputies say Cruz likely got a ride away from the neighborhood, and hasn't been seen since.
Cruz is wanted on warrants from the Colorado Department of Corrections, Alamosa County Sheriff's Office and on charges of Domestic Violence and Assault in Pueblo County.
Anyone who may have information on the whereabouts of John Kenneth Anthony Cruz is encouraged to contact the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office at (719)583-6250 or Crime Stoppers (719)542-STOP.
