Pueblo police notified the community about a sexually violent predator being released.
36-year-old Jefferson Benfield was just released from serving time for a conviction of 2nd degree sexual assault on an adult female. He was convicted on similar charges previous to that case. Police say he'll be living on Aster Street in Pueblo. Under court order, he only has to register as a sex offender, and will not need to be supervised.
Along with releasing this information, the Pueblo Police Department also issued this statement:
The purpose of this notification is to enhance public safety and protection. Vigilantism, or use of this information to harass, threaten, or intimidate any of the following people mentioned is criminal behavior and will not be tolerated: The offender, the offender's significant others, and the community notification team.
