Mother, Father Charged With Attempted Murder of Baby

The Colorado Springs parents accused of beating their infant nearly to death, make their first court appearances.

Jesse Lee Kaizen and Amanda Sims were arrested Wednesday for the attempted murder of their 9-month-old daughter.

Police say the baby was admitted to Memorial Hospital July 6th with serious injuries.

The child survived, but her injuries raised red flags for police.

Kaizen and Sims are charged with attempted first degree murder.

Family members were in the courtroom for the proceedings. They tell 11 News the couple is innocent and would never hurt their daughter.

Monaca Tipton is Amanda Sims' sister. She says,"My sister is being wrongly accused because she would never hurt any of her kids, she loves her kids."

Meanwhile, Kaizen's sister Adrieanna tells 11 News, "My brother loves his kids, all of them. They're his world. He's never, ever harmed them, he hates to see them hurt."

Bond has been set for each of them at $100,000. They will be back in court later this month.

I want to say something. Amanda gave her baby up for adoption to my husband and I when she was born. It was the greatest day of our lives. We named her Ashlyn and fell in love with her immediately. We cared for her for 2 months when we got the call that Amanda wanted her back. She told me I have everything and she has nothing. She wanted her baby back so she could get the father back. The only thing that got us through this year was hoping our baby was living a good life with her brother and sister. I can not believe the system would allow this evil person to get her child back and now look what happened. She would have been so safe and so loved with us. We will always love you Ashlyn (Kendra). Please help change the system so abuse like this can not continue.

Tyffanie! Amanda DOES NOT have a 10 year old son and go back the school and learn how to spell. Also the child DID NOT go back to them. She went to the hospital then hospice then a foster home.

I'm sorry, but no one can force another person to do drugs! Unless they are holding a gun to your head. And yes, the parents are innocent until proven guilty, but if the evidence is solid, justice will be served. As for the baby, I hope she can get better and find a warm, loving home with people who will cherish her the way a child should be! Lets remeber the baby who died 6 years ago from being abused! We as a society need to step up and say enough is enough. Don't be afraid to call the police or even social services or both to report any abuse being seen. If enough of us open our eyes wider, and become more nosey, maybe we can protect a child. I believe in karma, so if these parents did do it, they will get theirs!

MS (and others) there was not two incidents the time in july when the baby was taken to the hospital, she has been there ever since, the only move she has made is the one going into hospice. after finding the injuries she never went back home.

I agree, don't try to sit here and defend the parents! abusive relationship/ or drugs WHO WAS THERE TO LOVE THE BABY???? you dont stick around to keep a baby in an abusive relationship and you def dont EVER EVER EVER let anyone parent a child on tweak or any drug. get real! this baby didn't do this to itself. so sickening that people would be more concerned of protecting the parents, stop that energy and put it into hope that his baby comes out okay after this tragedy. Nothing should ever push you to hurt your child like that EVER and then it was more then once? SICK IN THE HEAD PARENTS. this poor baby has to deal with the scars for the rest of thier life then heres people trying to defend parents or even if they did went to prison not enough justice for this poor baby.

    1. Jolene, first of all you just admitted to the public that they BOTH were messed up from being involved with drugs, from the rest of the information you just provided everyone, that wasnt the ONLY problem they BOTH were facing. If you knew this, then why didnt you seek help for YOUR niece prior to this incident? I can see that white picket fence you just painted for that lil girl. Im not blaming you, however don't go threatening ppl when, really you could have stepped in yourself. Is it me, or did no one else catch the grandmother on the news last night, stating that she was there and "I know" how bad it was??? WTF, is wrong with any one of you for not reporting this? All those that keep asking "Were you there?", were YOU? If so, your should be tried for neglect as well. I hope this post opens the eyes of the detectives, track you down and try you as well. Theres no way, that any of you, who claim to know them, didnt see ONE sign of this, especially when there was an incident in July!!
