Colorado Springs Police arrest an alleged drug dealer and take four ounces of “black tar” heroin off the streets.

The arrest happened Friday near Furniture Row on Corporate Center Drive, that’s on the north side of Colorado Springs. Police are happy about this bust because they say an increasing number of high schoolers are now using that drug.

Detectives arrested the alleged dealer in what is called a "buy-bust" set up. They did that using an undercover officer who told the alleged dealer, he would pay $6,000 for four ounces of the “black tar” heroin.

"We ordered up a rather large amount today [Friday]," said Al Harmon, an undercover Colorado Springs Police Officer. "Our intention was for him to deliver that to an undercover detective and arrest him when he delivered that heroin."

Police say when he delivered the drugs, they set off a flash grenade to disorient the suspect, then arrest him and search for any other evidence.

"This is four more ounces that's not going to be ingested by some young person," said Colorado Springs Lieutenant David Whitlock.

Young people, especially high school students are the ones police are most concerned with. Back in December CSPD told 11 News detectives arrested several Mexican nationals and former Cheyenne Mountain High School students for selling drugs to current students.

"We've found since then several of those young people and a number of others have had black tar heroin been their first drug experience actually,” said Whitlock. “Which is very unique for that significant of a narcotic."

Police arrested Juan Antonio Bustillo-Perez, 32. Police report that during the course of this investigation, 156.7 grams of heroin, valued at $78,350 was seized.

Authorities say the more the city grows, so does the drug trafficking problem.
