A Colorado Airman found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time Sunday. A 25-year-old Iraq war veteran was attacked and robbed after leaving a downtown Colorado Springs bar.

The victim asked 11 News not to use his real name, so we'll call him "Joe."

As Joe was walking home, getting closer to the Firefly Condominium complex on S. Murray Blvd. he heard several men yelling at him. That's when they attacked using rocks, bricks, and their bodies.

“They just ran out from the apartment and started shouting things," said Joe.

Joe was hit in the head with a rock, causing a gash in his head that required staples. Joe also has a broken nose and several cuts.

"I don't remember how I ended up on the ground, I think I might of just dropped and I kinda wrapped myself up,” the victim says, "[They] started kicking me in the head, punching me, I believe."

Joe told police he's not sure how many men attacked him. He didn't have any cash on him, so the crooks only took what they could find: a ring, a necklace and the victim's cell phone.

Police don't have any suspects in this assault and robbery, but witnesses say the attackers drove off in an older, light-colored, box-style Chevy Caprice.

If you have any information about this attack, call Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP. Your anonymous tip could earn you a cash reward.

Yes it was a long walk. I won't be putting myself in that situation again and I assure you all I am sure that the law will prevail in this situation. As for me I am doing well, little the worse for wear but mentally I am fine. These punks just wanted to hurt someone and I am glad it was me they got as opposed to someone who may have had some lasting mental trauma.

Anonymous on Aug 3, 2009 at 08:07 AM: "Can't even walk down the street anymore without being attacked for no reason! What is this world coming to?" A very similar thing happened to me back in 1979, so it's not exactly a new occurance.

Attacked while "white". It's pretty sad commentary when four percent of the population commits 75 percent of the stranger-on-stranger violent crime.

People really have no respect for anyone anymore. This is really terriable! Hope they get caught!

Is this report accurate? "Joe" was walking home from a "downtown" bar and was attached on South Murray? That's one heck of a walk, but nonetheless, I sure hope these guys are caught and their punishment includes getting pommelled with rocks and bricks, then kicked and beat up by other veterans...maybe they could be taken to Ft. Carson or Pete Field for their sentence.

Ironic they chose to call you "Joe." They came running out of the apartment shouting things and attacked! This sounds like the movie "Dawn of the Dead." You still have your brains, so use them and maybe find a different neighborhood!
