A Colorado Airman found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time Sunday. A 25-year-old Iraq war veteran was attacked and robbed after leaving a downtown Colorado Springs bar.
The victim asked 11 News not to use his real name, so we'll call him "Joe."
As Joe was walking home, getting closer to the Firefly Condominium complex on S. Murray Blvd. he heard several men yelling at him. That's when they attacked using rocks, bricks, and their bodies.
“They just ran out from the apartment and started shouting things," said Joe.
Joe was hit in the head with a rock, causing a gash in his head that required staples. Joe also has a broken nose and several cuts.
"I don't remember how I ended up on the ground, I think I might of just dropped and I kinda wrapped myself up,” the victim says, "[They] started kicking me in the head, punching me, I believe."
Joe told police he's not sure how many men attacked him. He didn't have any cash on him, so the crooks only took what they could find: a ring, a necklace and the victim's cell phone.
Police don't have any suspects in this assault and robbery, but witnesses say the attackers drove off in an older, light-colored, box-style Chevy Caprice.
