A series of car burglaries Tuesday morning in Colorado Springs and police say the suspects left behind no obvious traces of their crime... except the missing items.

Colorado Springs police say it happened off Shimmering Leaf Road near Woodmen and Black Forest. Police say possibly four cars were broken into but not one window was broken.

One resident in the neighborhood, Mike Burwell, says he doesn't know how the thieves got into his work truck and his mini-van - both were locked.

"Got into the van, went through the consoles, took CD case full of CDs. I don't keep much in there," Burwell says.

Burwell says it was his dog that woke him up. "When I saw out the window, saw them going from house to house doing their thing. By the time I got in the truck to look for them, I couldn't find them anymore."

And strike the neighbor's houses they did- the crooks broke into another neighbor's Neon and stole their garage door opener, opened the garage and tried, unsuccessfully, to get into the home.

The bad guys got away, stealing the garage door opener, a GPS system, and the peace of mind in this neighborhood.

Burwell and other witnesses say the suspects were seen leaving the area in a dark-colored SUV, possibly a maroon Jeep Cherokee.

If you know anything about these crimes, you can call Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
