The Pueblo Police Department says there was a shooting Thursday in the streets of Pueblo.
Pueblo police say the shooting happened at 16th Street and Reading around 11:30 a.m. When officers arrived, they discovered a 17-year-old man had been shot once in the left leg. The victim told police he and a friend were walking from a girlfriend’s house when two men pulled up in a car, stopped and confronted the two about being on “DUKE” turf.
The victim said the two exchanged words before the driver pulled a semi-automatic handgun and shot him in the leg.
Detectives recognized the description of the shooter and car as being 32-year-old DUKE gang member Phillip Patrick Saldana. The victim later identified Saldana from a photo line-up.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Saldana for Second Degree Assault. Police have recovered the car that was driven at the time of the shooting, a Chevy El Camino, but they are still searching for Saldana.
The victim was treated and released from Parkview Hospital.
