Four people are dead, following a 2-vehicle head-on crash in Kiowa County early Sunday morning.

It happened on Highway 287 about 10 miles north of Wiley, closing down the highway for a period of time. Wiley is about 10 miles northwest of Lamar.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, a Nissan minivan was traveling southbound, when the driver, 19-year-old Cody Mummy, of Peyton, drifted into the oncoming lane and collided with a northbound Ford Focus sedan.

The minivan burst into flames upon impact. The Ford Focus went off the east side of the highway before coming to rest.

Mummy and his passenger, Sophia Robinson, 17, of Colorado Springs, died at the scene of injuries.

The driver of the Focus also was declared dead at the scene. Two passengers suffered injuries.

One of the passengers died later at Prowers County Medical Center of those injuries.

The other passenger was flown from Prowers County M.C. to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, and is being treated for serious injuries.

Names of all the drivers and passengers aren't being released until relatives can be notified.

The State Patrol says it's unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved, pending results of toxicology reports.

The occupants of the Focus were wearing their seat belts and airbags deployed. Troopers said seat belt and airbag use in the Nissan aren't known at this time.

The accident happened around 2:15 a.m.
