The man behind Hillary Rodham Clinton's eye-popping fundraising during the presidential primaries is eying a political seat of his own.
Former Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe says he plans to run for governor of Virginia.
As chairman of Clinton's presidential campaign, McAuliffe helped her raise tens of millions of dollars. And as DNC chairman, he helped restore the fiscal health of a party that was broke and dispirited after Al Gore's 2000 presidential loss.
McAuliffe announced his plans in an online video, saying he plans to "travel to every corner of the commonwealth" during his campaign.
He faces two other Democrats who have been active for nearly a year in an already contentious nomination fight to succeed Democratic Gov. Timothy M. Kaine.
The election will be held in November.
