Flags are flying at half-staff across the state in memory of an Adams County deputy district attorney shot and killed in his own backyard.

Gov. Bill Ritter this week issued an order for U.S. and Colorado flags to be lowered on Thursday, the day of the public funeral for prosecutor Sean May.

Denver police say they believe the person who killed the 37-year-old May was waiting in his yard and shot him in the head and abdomen as he was walking in his yard on his way home from work Aug. 27.

Hundreds of people turned out Thursday morning for May's funeral at the Temple Buell Theatre in the Denver Performing Arts Complex.

May had worked for the Adams County DA's office for seven years.

No arrests have been made.
