A memorial service is planned Thursday for an Adams County deputy district attorney who was shot while walking across his backyard on his way home after work.

Denver police say they believe the person who killed 37-year-old Sean May was waiting in the yard and shot May in the head and abdomen August 27.

No motive has been released, and it is unclear whether the shooting was related to May's work. As chief deputy district attorney in Adams County, May handled cases involving the child victims' unit and murder trials.

May's survivors include his wife, who is pregnant with their first child.

This is very sad. I hope the police find out who did this. My heart goes out to the wife and the unborn child. May god be with you both in justice and peace
