A widowed mother has been indicted on charges of killing her two children in bed before taking a University of Louisville counselor hostage at gunpoint.

A grand jury charged 37-year-old Gail Coontz on Monday with two counts of murder and one count each of tampering with physical evidence, terroristic threatening, unlawful imprisonment and wanton endangerment.

Coontz was arrested March 27 at the university, where she allegedly brandished a gun while speaking with a counselor. She had been a student at the college since 2006. Police later found 14-year-old Greg and 10-year-old Nikki dead in their south Louisville home.

Coontz is being held in jail on a $500,000 bond.

Coontz's attorney did not immediately return calls for comment.
