Thursday's state Supreme Court reversal of California's ban on gay marriages is prompting TV host Ellen DeGeneres to take the plunge.

The 50-year-old DeGeneres announced during a taping of her syndicated talk show Thursday that she plans to marry her 35-year-old actress girlfriend, Portia de Rossi. De Rossi was in the studio during the announcement. And the couple received applause from the studio audience. The episode airs today.

Yesterday's court ruling means California gay couples could be getting married as soon as next month. But it may be a short window for marriage. Conservatives are seeking to put a constitutional amendment on the ballot in November to unring the wedding bell and once again ban gay marriage.
