Barack Obama says President Bush launched a "false political attack" in remarks that appeared to imply the Democratic presidential candidate would appease dictators.

Bush said in a speech to Israel's Knesset that "some seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along ... We have an obligation to call this what it is -- the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history."

Obama responded in a statement. It is "sad" that Bush would use Israel's 60th anniversary "to launch a false political attack. George Bush knows that I have never supported engagement with terrorists."

All adversarial countries of the US cannot match this country militarily. Bush accused Obama’s desire to have sit down talks with “enemy nations” as appeasement but, such talks would ameliorate misunderstood intent on both parts. The president cited; if only peace talks with Hitler were held, the war with Europe could have been avoided. The Nazi expansionism was backed by a powerful military that was on parity with the U.S. Only all out war, with the backing of U.S. lead coalition forces, which included Russia, were the Nazis’ and Japan conquered. There is no such threat or parity today that would not end with total annihilation of any nation if America is challenged. Obama has offered unconditional talks with any willing nation. Why not? - As long as he demands any agreements and signed treaties must never be violated without the dire consequences of military retaliation, whether surgical strikes or mass destruction.

It is better to discuss differences with your enemies face to face than rattling swords from afar. It is not appeasement when you find mutual grounds that both agree on. Then get them to sign treaties that when broken or violated would mean anihilation of that nation. The US would have better leverage with advisaries when both understand what is expected

Patti: It is also irrational and irresponsible to believe that the foreign policies of the Bush and Clinton regimes aren't partially to blame for our enemies' hatred towards us.

Bush's words are pretty bold considering just about everything his administration has done since 9/11 (along with the news media) is quite the same as what Hitler's thugs did in the run up to his evil dictatorship.

Our President is only stating facts.It is irrational to believe you can change the mind of terrorists.He did not use the senator's name so it seems Obama's response is out of a guilty conscience.
