After a weekend of near misses, Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton finally crossed paths at the Democratic Party's Jefferson Jackson Day dinner in Indiana.

The dinner represented another forum in which Clinton could push for a gas-tax holiday, and Obama could criticize the notion.

Clinton says she would make up lost revenue from the tax break by imposing a windfall profits tax on the oil companies. She says leaders "can't just plan for the future" but also have to do something for the "here and now."

Obama told the same audience in a separate appearance that oil companies would "simply jack up their price to fill the gap."

Clinton and Obama nearly tripped over each other throughout the day yesterday.

They stayed at Indianapolis hotels one block apart. They greeted voters within miles of each other in Fort Wayne and both made stops in or around South Bend.
