Reporter: Colorado Rockies

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has avoided arbitration by agreeing to a two-year contract with right-handed pitcher Jhoulys Chacin. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, per club policy.

Chacin, 25, went 3-5 with a 4.43 ERA (69.0 ip, 34 er), 32 walks and 45 strikeouts in 14 starts for the Rockies in 2012. Chacin missed over three months from May 7th to August 21st while on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation. Chacin has pitched in the Majors with Colorado in each of the last four seasons, since 2009, compiling a career record of 23-31 with a 3.68 ERA (411.1 ip, 168 er) in 82 games, 67 starts. Chacin’s 3.68 career ERA is the second-lowest for a Rockies pitcher in franchise history (minimum 50 starts). The Maracaibo, Venezuela native was originally signed by Colorado as a non-drafted free agent on September 27, 2004.

The Rockies have a full 40-man roster.
