Police say a woman was in the middle of assaulting an acquaintance when an off-duty parole officer happened upon the scene.

The suspect and her male accomplice were able to get away before more officers arrived, but were located and arrested a short time later. They have been identified as Lyndsey Van Buskirk and Brandon Rodriguez.

According to police, the victim had been attacked while crossing the street at Platte and Murray in Colorado Springs Wednesday night. She had previously been hiding from the two suspects after Rodriguez demanded a cell phone from her earlier that night, and threatened he had a gun.

Police say when Van Buskirk saw the victim trying to cross the intersection, she sprayed the victim with mace and then began assaulting her. After she was allegedly caught red-handed by the off-duty parole officer, who stopped the assault, she and Rodriguez ran off. Police say they got away with the victim's wallet. The suspects were later found at her apartment.

Officers obtained a search warrant, and say they found items associated with the investigation inside Van Buskirk's apartment. She and Rodriguez were both arrested.

Police tell 11 News the victim knew both suspects and that the situation stemmed from "some sort of dispute over property," with Van Buskirk at one point demanding that the victim return items that belonged to Rodriguez. It's unclear at this time if this demand was made at the time of the assault or prior to Rodriguez's confrontation with the victim.
