Mayor Of Florence Found Dead In Home

Autopsy results revealed that the deceased mayor of Florence, whose body was found Friday, had a bad heart.

An officer with the Florence Police Department tells 11 News that the cause of death will not be officially confirmed until the toxicology results. Those are not expected for several more weeks. Police do not suspect foul play at this time.

The body of Mayor Charles Giebler, 52, was found in his home Friday.

The Florence City Council said in a written statement that Giebler's easygoing demeanor, witty sense of humor and honest nature will be sorely missed.

An online biography on the city's website says Giebler was born in Erie, Pa., in 1960. He owned three businesses in Florence with a stepbrother.

His survivors include a son and daughter.

Councilwoman Svetlana Piltingsrud says she was shocked to hear about Geibler's death.

Councilwoman Nichole Prickett released this statement:

"Florence City Council would like to express with deep regret and sorrow, the loss of our dear friend and Mayor, Charles Geibler. His easy going demeanor, witty sense of humor and honest nature will be sorely missed. He was a true citizen of Florence, who always put his community first. We are grateful for the opportunity to spend time and to know him. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as we come to terms with this great loss. May he rest in peace."
