Car Theft Caught On Camera

A Colorado Springs family is hoping someone will recognize a man caught on camera stealing their Mustang convertible. The crook stole the vehicle early Tuesday morning.

The bad guy went to work around 3 a.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of The Insurance House where Trisha Moynihan works. Now she can only wonder what one man has done with her vehicle. It’s a green 1990 Mustang convertible "7-Up Edition."

"It's very frustrating!" Trisha said. “This is my place of business, so this is someplace I have grown to feel comfortable coming to work every day."

The man can be seen on video captured by security cameras on the outside of the building near Union and Academy Boulevard. He’s wearing baggy clothes and a white cap. The video also shows a car pull into the parking lot and stop briefly behind the Mustang a few hours before the man is seen walking back to the vehicle.

The man goes for the soft convertible top at times, throwing himself at the car to try to get in.

“It's hard to watch because you know he's just ripping apart everything."

Once inside, the thief spends more time in the car before finally starting the engine and driving away from the well lit parking lot.

"People are so brazen,” Trisha said. “It makes you worried about what people will do and what they're capable of."

The license plate number on the Mustang is 939-UNJ. Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
