Escaped Fugitive Shot And Killed In Texas

A Florida prisoner who escaped after allegedly stabbing a detective with his eyeglasses has been shot and killed by law enforcement officers near Dallas.

The Southlake, Texas, Department of Public Safety posted on Facebook Saturday morning that Alberto Morales was shot shortly before midnight following a foot chase. Police responded to an area near Lake Grapevine in north Texas after receiving information from a local resident.

Morales was on the run for days. Schools in Southlake had been on a “soft perimeter” status since Morales first escaped. Thursday, a $20,000 reward was offered for any information leading to Morales’ capture.

The 42-year-old Morales was a convicted sex offender. He escaped Monday at a Walmart store parking lot in Grapevine, a community near the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. Police say he used a sharp piece from his eyeglasses to stab a Miami-Dade detective who was transferring him by car to Nevada.
