Truck Strikes Building, Causes Gas Leak

Posted: 4:03 AM Jan 27, 2013
Reporter: KKTV

A failed emergency brake has been blamed for a vehicle rolling into a building, breaking a gas line and causing an evacuation of a fourplex in Colorado Springs.

Police say the SUV’s emergency brake failed, allowing the truck to roll down a small hill and into the side of the building at 3965 Stonedike Dr., near Centennial and Garden of the Gods. When the truck struck the building, it ruptured a gas pipe. The residents evacuated the building and called police. No one was injured.

Colorado Springs Utilities shut the gas off for the building. Firefighters and a HAZMAT crew aired out the units and monitored the gas levels inside the building.

Colorado Springs police say they are investigating the circumstances behind this accident.
