Reporter: KKTV

A 61-year-old from Iowa has pleaded guilty to careless driving in a fatal crash that left one woman dead.

Heather Dunn of Cotopaxi, Colo was killed on Aug. 16 when a 2011 Chevrolet driving the wrong way on Highway 50 crashed head-on into her vehicle. The crash occurred at mile marker 231 three miles west of Howard.

Authorities say Dunn was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.

The Chevy's driver, William Shaffer of North Liberty, Iowa was taken to The Heart of the Rockies Medical Center in Salida for treatment of minor injuries. He was wearing a seat belt.

Shaffer was originally charged with one count of vehicular homicide, but that charge was dismissed. He reportedly faces at least $9,000 in restitution costs.

Shaffer will be sentenced on March 5.
