CBI Investigates Body Found

A person walking their dog Friday afternoon stumbled upon a body lying face-down in Fountain Creek.

Authorities say the body was submerged in two to three feet of water, and had a layer of ice over the back. The reporting party saw the body in an area near Santa Fe Avenue and I-25.

It took a combined effort by firefighters, agents with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and Fountain police officers to get the body out of the water. Investigators say that the body was in a remote area of the creek, and the terrain to get down is very steep and rugged.

Authorities identified the deceased as Nathaniel Vialpando, 27. Cause of death and whether or not there was foul play involved is unknown.

Residents in the area were shocked by the discovery.

"I run a daycare so this concerns me, so ya, I have to pay attention to what goes on in my neighborhood," one neighbor told us.

"I'm a little worried actually," another neighbor said.

"It's kind of scary because this is a good neighborhood, it's really unusual, nothings ever really happened here," a third added.

Neighbors and police said transients have been seen in the area before.

There is evidence of a campsite near where the body was found, but police don't know if it belonged to the person found in the creek or connected to this case.
