It's good to have goals. And as we begin a new year, we often find ourselves setting new health/fitness goals. But it's also important to be specific. So that's what I've tried to do with my New Year's resolution this year.
I want to do a pull up. That's right. A pull-up.
I'm a fairly strong girl. I lift weights. I can do honest-to-goodness push-ups. But the pull-up has always escaped me.
Last year, in 2011, I spent some time working out at Cross Fit So Co. Part of the workouts often include pull-ups. Men AND women could do them! I wasn't quite there, so I always had to do the modified version, which basically involved jumping up over and over to hold my head above the bar.
But I always admired the strength it took to actually do a pull-up. So in 2013, I'm going to do it!
Hopefully, I will be able to do more than one by the end of the year. But first things first - one pull-up.
I think it's going to require some hard work in the gym. But I'm up for it. And for the days that I can't make it to the gym, there's a park across the street from my house with some monkey bars. So I can keep checking my progress there too!
