Excel Customers Warned about Increase in Scams

Excel Energy which serves customers in southern Colorado is warning about an increase in scam phone calls. Mark Stutz told me they've seen anywhere from 80 to 100 cases. He also says Excel noticed a 45% jump in such scams in January compared to all of 2012. Stutz says crooks are calling and telling folks their service is about to be cancelled or they paid too much. They're asked for a credit card number, pre-paid card number, or even bank account information. Just remember, don't assume the caller is legit. Hang up and call your utility company yourself to check. If you're an Excel customer who has received such a call, you're asked to report the incident by dialing 1-800-895-4999.
