What's this new My Network TV business?
Alright, here's the scoop. This past January, the WB Network and the UPN Network decided to merge and form one new network. Immediately after that decision, 20th Century Fox decided to start up a new network to fill a void left for some of it’s owned stations who would no longer be UPN affiliates. It’s called… MyNetworkTV.
Will KKTV become My Network?
Kind of… KKTV as you know it now will still continue as a CBS affiliate. MyKKTV is an additional channel added by KKTV. The reason the call letters are the same is because it’s not a new station, it’s a new digital channel broadcast in the same digital signal as the original one.
What does that mean for me and my TV watching?
Well, first… to get the channel over the air (with an antenna), you will need to have a TV with a digital tuner. Here’s how it will work. Digital Channel 11-1 is still the CBS affiliate, in High Definiition. MyKKTV will be digital channel 11.2, and has a new programming lineup. If you don’t watch digital television free over the air, then that’s another story. In the Springs, MyKKTV is channel 141 and in Pueblo, we are channel 246. We are currently working with satellite companies to add MyKKTV to their channel lineup. You can help by letting them know you want MyKKTV. Please call DirecTV at 1-800-494-4388 or the Dish Network at 1-888-254-7116.
How is MyNetworkTV different from the “traditional” networks?
They program the primetime hours differently than what you’ve come to know. It's kind of a cool concept. Monday through Friday at 7pm, there will be a one hour "tele-novella". Saturday nights will feature recaps and additional scenes from that week’s shows. After 13 weeks, those storylines will end, and the series will start new story lines with new actors, etc. This will happen every 13 weeks. That means MyNetworkTV will have year-round original programming, with no repeats. It’s a format that has been successful across the world, called the “Tele-novella.” It's a soap opera and mini-series combined. Check out MyNetworkTV.com for previews and more.
