Colorado Springs - A local non-profit that opposes gays in the military says the U.S. Postal Service refused to give it a reduced postal rate.

The Family Research Institute wanted to express its concerns about gays in the military in a bulk newsletter to be mailed out. FRI says local postal officials refused to mail out the newsletter because they deemed the content "obscene" and "incited force-able resistance against the government." after a routine check of the mail before it was authorized to be sent out. However, Ron Perry with U.S. Postal Service community relations claims local post office officials never refused to mail it out, they just wouldn't mail it at a reduced non-profit bulk rate because they believed it violated guidelines stated in the Domestic Mail Manual for obscene content. "We have mailing standards that we have to uphold," said Perry

The four-page newsletter includes research and an interview with a female enlistee recalling her experiences with homosexuals in basic training.

The Family Research Institute says the content was acceptable and the postal service violated its freedom of speech.

"We're Americans,” said FRI Chairman Dr. Paul Cameron. “Where does the post office get off enforcing Obama's rules and thinking, on us, because we disagree with them."

Local postal officials sent the newsletter to Washington for review. Wednesday morning, the United States Postal Service Pricing and Classifications board overruled the local interpretation that the newsletter violated guidelines for a non-profit bulk mailing rate. FRI will now be allowed to mail out their newsletter at a non-profit rate, which is 3 cents less than the standard mailing rate.

This is about freedom of speech, not wheather you think it's ok to be gay or strait.

"even if it is a part you can twist around to make it fit you..." isn't that what just about every modern "Christian" does? just look at Leviticus for a start- plenty of people cite it when it comes to homosexuality, but they shave and wear clothes made of more than one kind of fabric. who decides which rules to follow, and which are outdated and unnecessary?

Thank you Betty! We must continue to spread the gospel no matter the opposition we will surely encounter. As for "Come on", we are Christians, not christers. And since it appears you are reading at least a little bit of the bible, even if it is a part you can twist around to make it fit you, let me help you out. Those of us who are true Christians are not out protesting. Our call is to come alongside these people and help them to see there is a better way. So although I have just been judged as a "christer" by you, I am not to judge you as an unbeliever. So I'm really not sure who has done the judging here, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't me.
