It's the happiest time of the year... especially for the families of dozens of soldiers who welcomed home their heroes overnight, just in time for the holidays.

Fort Carson welcomed home soldiers from the 749th Explosive Ordinance Company, 242nd Explosive Ordinance Disposal Battalion, 71st Ordinance Group very early Tuesday morning. The ceremony took place at 1 a.m., but those anxiously awaiting their return told 11 News, they didn't mind staying up late for the special moment. The 45 soldiers were welcomed into Waller Physical Fitness Center with rousing applause and hoots and hollers from their family and friends, excited to see their loved ones after almost a year away.

During their deployment, members of the 749th worked closely with a Navy
Explosive Ordnance Detachment in support of Army units in the Northern areas of Iraq.

The 749th soldiers have been deployed in Iraq for 11 months in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. They sent for a 12-month tour but were lucky enough to come home a little early, in just about 11 months... just in time for the holidays.

YAY! I am so happy for these strong, dedicated and loyal families and their brave heroes. EOD is by far one of the most dangerous jobs in the military and it is great they are home in time for Christmas. WELCOME HOME 749TH! JOB WELL DONE!

Who Cares! They are home safe... Thank you Soldiers! They could be naked for all I care, as long as they make it home safe!

Ken, You've obviously never been to a homecoming ceremony. They are always wearing their full ACUs and soldiers salute indoors at every military event I've ever been to. Most importantly, you're missing the point of the story! ... Thank you to these soldiers and their families for bravely serving our country. Welcome home!!! :) Enjoy the holidays together!
