The nation's military academies are trying to increase diversity to boost the number of minorities in the officers' ranks.

But some lawmakers who represent congressional districts with large minority populations are nominating the fewest number of students.

The Associated Press reviewed nomination records at the U.S. Naval, Military and Air Force academies over five years. Most congressional members make many nominations. About half of all House lawmakers nominated more than 100 students each over the period.

Lawmakers from New York make up five of the 20 lowest nominators including Democratic Rep. Nydia Velazquez, who has nominated only four students in five years. She's also among the loudest critics of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Jennifer, There isn't a machine made delicate enough to measure how little you know about minorities and education. And you sound a little angry about black folk. The academies are looking for minority officer material because the enlisted ranks are already integrated with black, white, latin, and everything else. Makes sense to have the same diversity in the leadership.

I believe we have tried that diversity thing in the military and we ended up with Ft. Hood !!!!!! Here is a simple solution, only the best and most qualified get in period !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's because the Academies are basically "college".. and well, "certain" minorities don't statistically do well in places like college ========== (and don't say it's because "they" can't pay for college! I was broke as fkk and got paid $2000/quarter EXTRA from state-programs just for attending... AND I AM WHITE/UNFAVORED FOR ADMISSION. Shut up and go invest your entire life in becoming one of the few hundred NBA stars. Shut up and go watch MTV/Disney/BET... or else do good in high-school and earn your way into the college payroll)
