Sgt. Joshua J. Kirk Leaves Behind Wife, Young Daughter
Kirk, 30, is being remembered as an outgoing and caring soldier. His sister tells 11 News he leaves behind a wife and a three-year-old daughter.

Sgt. Joshua J. Kirk was killed October 3 in Afghanistan when his combat outpost was attacked by enemy insurgents.

Kirk entered the Army on May 25, 2005. He was serving his second deployment in Afghanistan when he was killed. His first tour was served from May 2007 – July 2008. He deployed to Afghanistan on May 22 for this tour.

Kirk, 30, is being remembered as an outgoing and caring soldier. His sister tells 11 News he leaves behind a wife and a three-year-old daughter.

Army Achievement Medal
Army Good Conduct Medal
National Defense Service Medal
Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/ Campaign Star
Global War on Terrorism Service Medal

Combat Action Badge

He was a native of South Portland, Maine.

Kirk was part of Bravo Troop, 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

SGT Kirk was a great person, and fun-loving. My condolences go out his family. You will not forgotten..Rest in PEace Brother

I fought by your side for 15 months with the Airborne CAV in Konar and Nuristan as your platoon sergeant, I wish I could have been there with you. RIP my brother.
