A Fort Carson soldier was killed in a rollover accident on Fremont County Road 67, 10 miles north of Highway 50 early Saturday morning.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, 24-year-old Joshua Carter, of Fort Carson, was traveling north in a Chevrolet pickup when he lost control of the truck rolling it down an embankment. Colorado State patrol says the truck landed on Carter. They say he died of his injuries.

Staff Sgt. Carter joined the Army five years ago. He had completed two tours in Iraq and was assigned to 4th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson. His unit just returned from their last tour of duty in February of this year.

His medals include Army Commendation Medal (3); Army Achievement Medal (2); Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon (2); Combat Action Badge; Parachute Badge.

Carter is a native of Paragould, Arkansas.

Troopers say two passengers were also injured in the crash, but are expected to be okay. Rhyen Dailey, 26, of Fort Carson was in the front passenger seat. Savannah Barnash, 22, of Colorado Springs was in the back of the truck.

Colorado State Patrol says alcohol is suspected in the accident, pending toxicology results.
