Fort Carson honors a fallen hero Wednesday in a ceremony on the Mountain Post.

Chief Warrant Officer Robert Hammett, 39, was killed in a Baghdad bombing on June 24. He was attending a District Council Meeting with Iraqis at the civic center in Sadr City, when a bomb went off killing him, three other Americans and a number of Iraqis.

Hammett had been in the Army for the past 18 years and was looking to retire in two years to spend more time with his family. Hammett had five daughters with his wife Leanna. The oldest was 16, the youngest was born March of last year. His family lived near to Fort Carson while Hammett was deployed.

This was Hammett's second tour to Iraq and he had also previously been deployed to Kuwait in 2002.
