Imagine coming home for lunch to find a stranger in your house. That’s exactly what one man found on Friday--and he decided to protect his house.
George Lujan never expected to be spending his lunch break fighting off a burglar right from within his own home.
“When I walked in I heard this noise coming from my office," Lujan explained.
Lujan turned the corner and came face to face with the suspect, who tried to make a break for it--but Lujan wouldn’t let him go without a fight.
“Just adrenaline and anger at the same time, I thought I had to do something about it,” Lujan said.
Things turned physical. Lujan shoved the suspect through the front door, shattering glass everywhere as the two scuffled down the steps. Neighbors heard the commotion and came running.
“The gentleman saw us fly out the door and he kept track of him all the way through,” Lujan said.
Police surrounded the neighborhood and took the suspect down, even recovering the guns and prescription drugs they say the thief was trying to make off with. Lujan says he feels lucky that no one was seriously hurt and that the suspect is now behind bars.
“He ran but it didn’t do him much good, he came to the wrong place," Lujan explained.
Lujan was treated for minor injuries and a sprained ankle. He tells 11 News his house was locked at the time and that the suspect broke into the back door with a hammer. The suspect is facing first-degree burglary charges, as well as charges against fleeing police officers.
