Friends and family at Fort Carson welcomed home 290 American heroes home after a 12 month deployment to Afghanistan. Soldiers of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division arrived to the cheers of more than 300 friends and family members at Fort Carson's, Special Events Center at 12:30 am Saturday.

The late hour did not dampen the mood as Toby Keith's, "American Soldier" blasted over the loud speaker system and the familiar smoke screen was marched through by the returning soldiers. KKTV was there to capture the reactions of the returning soldiers and family members.

The members of the returning soldiers have been deployed to Afghanistan providing training and security to the local government and military. There are more homecomings scheduled for later this week, be sure to follow 11 News for details.

OK Lee, got it for you, with out our Soldiers pick another country that wants what we have to take it, they are there fighting and dieing for you cause you will not. It is hard for most to understand with closed mindedness how they defend your rights, but lets remember War is NOT the answer, unless, its Tyrants, slavery, and opression. It is the Soldier, not the minister Who has given us freedom of religion. It is the Soldier, not the reporter Who has given us freedom of the press. It is the Soldier, not the poet Who has given us freedom of speech. It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer Who has given us freedom to protest. It is the Soldier, not the lawyer Who has given us the right to a fair trial. It is the Soldier, not the politician Who has given us the right to vote. It is the Soldier who salutes the flag, Who serves beneath the flag, And whose coffin is draped by the flag, Who allows the protester to burn the flag. -Charles M. Province

Oathkeepers is a group of military members who essentially pledge not to turn on Americans when this country hits the skids. They pledge to honor their support of the constitution.

OK, but exactly how are they defending our rights?

I'm with Juli&Ed. The other commenters need to find a different forum for their personal gripes; it does our soldiers a disservice to (try to) sully this welcome. To the naysayers: Wrote letters to your congressmen&women if you're dissatisfied with the military- our soldiers do not have time to waste on your twisted views- they're busy defending your right to have them by putting it all on the line. All you've put on the line is thoughtless insults.

It's not just heroes, it's brave heroes. They are all brave even though they may have enlisted to find a job or go to college. For some, it was the macho appeal of the gun and uniform. If those types were really lucky maybe Blackwater was hiring at the time. No accountability necessary. Just go have some fun.

The news doesn't just talk about it, they gush over it. They keep selling the American apple pie image of the soldier fighting for us. Doesn't matter what country we occupy and how long the war will last. I like the heartwarming stories about soldiers getting new legs and arms. Very inspirational. No need to stop wars anymore. The military has become an accepted part of the economy. Military-industrial complex. But let's not talk about that. Lyndie England. Is she a hero, too? Or just one of the "few" bad apples recruited to follow orders from the top without any conscience or awareness. Any fort Carson troops members of Oathkeepers??? Haven't heard anything about that group on the news. Why not?
