A FLASH FLOOD WATCH will go into effect on Tuesday afternoon for most of Southern Colorado. Daytime heating and moisture will combine with a disturbance moving through Colorado to develop numerous thunderstorms. Any one of them will be more than capable of producing very heavy rain. Burn scars and areas that have seen recent heavy rain will be under the greatest risk for flash flooding. The 11 Breaking Weather Team will be tracking this threat all day for you.
Colorado Springs Police responded to a report of a fight after a party on the 3700 block of E. La Salle St. around 12:30 a.m. Sunday. When officers arrived, witnesses told them that the man who hosted the party showed a handgun and started making threats.
Cops say when they tried to contact the residents inside, they refused to listen. When police realized that the suspect's wife and their 5-month-old were inside, they called in the SWAT Team.
A full response of tactical and explosives ordnance officers descended on the apartment complex evacuating residents from the apartments.
Colorado Springs Police Department hostage negotiators attempted to make contact with the man in the apartment with no reply. He has now been identified as 23-year-old Michael Hirsch.
SWAT officers eventually went into the apartment. The suspect and family were found in the master bedroom of the apartment by officers around 5 a.m.
The suspect faces Felony Menacing Domestic Violence and was taken to the county jail.
