Early Morning Crash Leaves Man In Serious Condition

An early morning accident on Marksheffel Road sends a man to a local hospital by Flight for Life in serious condition. The driver of a green SUV was traveling South on Marksheffel Road when he lost control and hit a tree trapping him in the vehicle.

Colorado Springs Fire Department crews from station 17 responded with their heavy rescue truck to free the trapped and seriously injured man from his vehicle. Firefighters had to remove the entire top of the SUV in order to free the injured driver before sending him to a local hospital by Flight for Life.

Colorado Springs Police say the investigation of the accident is pending any results as to why the driver lost control while driving south on Marksheffel Road. The do say high speeds may have played part in the accident.

    he wasnt drinking and would never drink and drive. i think he may have just lost control. seeings how it was an early morning crash, maybe he just fell asleep at the wheel. but now whatever the case maybe he is fighting for his life.

    As a friend I know he was getting off work and driving HOME! Good young man! Just pray for him!

    I drove past the accident site this afternoon. The lone tree is just south of the Marksheffel entrance to Peterson Base.

    there are trees all over marksheffel, on the other side of the airport

    I'm guessing there's at least one tree somewhere along the 17 miles of Marksheffel Road. Of course a slightly better location would help...
