The Federal Bureau of Investigation says two robbery suspects are in police custody in Kansas. They turned themselves in without incident. Overland Park Kansas Police confirm they have two suspects in custody wanted on Colorado arrest warrants.
The two are accused of a January 23rd bank robbery in Littleton, Colorado. But, according to a FBI affidavit, the method of the robbery on Monday is consistent with a series of bank robberies spanning the last 18 months. Those robbers have been dubbed the "Military-Style Bandits" or the "Hollywood Style Bandits."
Investigators are looking into those series of robberies, trying to figure out if Smallcanyon and Salvador are responsible. According to the FBI, one of the robberies they're looking at is a November 2004 bank robbery at the FirstBank at Briargate and Union in Colorado Springs.
Tuesday night police thought the two may have been in Colorado Springs. Sgt. Scott Whittington of the Colorado Springs Police Department says the FBI informed CSPD Tuesday of the identity of the suspects in the series of bank robberies.
Colorado Springs Police executed 3 search warrants Tuesday night in Northeastern Colorado Springs, but did not find Smallcanyon or Salvador. Sgt. Whittington says they did develop probable cause to issue arrest warrants for both.
Now the two are facing up to 24 years in federal prison if convicted for the LIttleton robbery. They could face more time, if they're charged in any of the other robberies.
