A police chase ended at a convenience store in Security-Widefield, where officers were forced to shoot and kill the suspect.
According to authorities at the scene, the suspect was a fugitive with multiple felony warrants.
Authorities say Springs police were in pursuit of the suspect just before noon on Friday, and were trying to keep him within Colorado Springs city limits. The suspect left the city, and crossed into Security-Widefield, eventually ramming into police cars at the 7-Eleven on 5 Widefield Boulevard. Due to this aggressive behavior towards officers, combined with the fact that the suspect was armed, officers were forced to shoot him.
The district attorney's office and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office will be conducting a thorough investigation due to it being an officer-involved shooting.
The incident forced two area schools, Talbot Elementary and Watson Junior High, to go on secured perimeter status for 20 minutes. That has since been lifted.
Widefield Boulevard is shut down for several blocks beginning at Fontaine.
At this time, little is known about the suspect, who has only been identified as an adult male. 11 News remains at the scene, and will follow the investigation.
