Woodland Park Mayor David Turley has turned in his resignation. Turley is accused of sexual assault on a child.
In a resignation letter dated July 14, Turley called the allegations against him "false," but said they have made it impossible for him to do his job effectively.
"It is unfortunate that these mere allegations have forced me to devote all of my attention to fighting them rather than serving the community of Woodland Park," Turley said in the letter.
Turley was arrested May 23 and charged with sexual assault on a child by someone in a position of trust. A judge said he is not allowed contact with anyone under the age of 18 unless supervised.
The alleged assault happened sometime between May 11 and May 22.
Turley's resignation went into effect immediately. The full text of his letter can be found at the link accompanying this article.
