Nearly one-third of U.S. workers call in sick with fake excuses--but how many submit a fake obituary to a city newspaper in order to score time off?
A Greeley woman found herself in need of time off recently--and according to Denver CBS affiliate KCNC, decided to go the extra mile to ensure her employers bought her excuse.
The woman wrote an obituary for her very-much-alive brother and submitted it to the Greeley Tribune.
Edgar Balderrama, 28, was alerted to what his sister did once calls started pouring into his home, offering his wife condolences.
Balderrama's wife, Erica, went to the newspaper to find out who submitted the obituary. That's when she learned that her sister-in-law was behind it.
"She had missed a lot of days of work and that was her way to get out of it," Erica Balderrama told KCNC.
