Commerce City police confirm that remains found in a Denver-area landfill last week are those of 7-month-old Torrey Brown, missing since March.

Police said Thursday that DNA testing confirms the remains are those of the son of 23-year-old Sharrieckia Page. After the boy disappeared, Page was charged with first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death.

At the time of the initial disappearance in late March, police declined to reveal what information led them to believe the child was dead.

Dumpsters at the Pinecrest apartment complex were searched at that time. Investigators said they received information that Page had been seen near one of the dumpsters.

Crews sorted through 9,900 tons of waste at the dump before finding the body.

Officers started looking for Page's son after a relative asked for a welfare check.
