A man faces first-degree murder charges after a woman was found dead inside a Manitou Springs home.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office identifies the suspect as 29-year-old Christopher Miller. They say he was the one who reported finding the body on the afternoon of June 2.
Court papers obtained by 11 News on Monday detail what investigators have uncovered leading up to the death of Jacqueline Knudson, 56.
According to Sheriff's Office, Miller called police last week after claiming to have arrived at his home on Waltham Avenue to find Knudson dead inside the house. The cause of death has been ruled as blunt force trauma.
According to arrest papers, Miller said he last saw Knudson on July 1. The investigation uncovered Miller was driving Knudson's car and using her credit cards that day. His first stop was at D&D Liquor store in Manitou Springs, where surveillance video shows Miller there on July 1. Later, investigators say he used Knudson’s cards at J.C. Penny's and a sports clothing store at Citadel Mall.
Miller also reportedly stayed the night with friends on July 1. On July 2, he called police to report Knudson's death. Investigators impounded her car and found bloody clothing belonging to Miller inside, as well as receipts from the purchases made at the mall and in Manitou Springs.
Miller reportedly took care of Knudson, who needed care for medical issues, in exchange for not paying rent. The arrest papers indicate investigators found a recent contract in the house asking Miller to pay rent and keep up with it, or leave immediately. Miller signed the contract on July 1.
Miller is being held at the CJC without bond. He is due back in court Thursday.
