The victim in a homicide investigation has been identified. She is 28 year-old Kimberly Walker. Her body was found at the Crowne Plaza just before 7 a.m. Sunday. Investigators said they think she was killed Thursday or Friday.

An autopsy shows she was strangled to death. She also had injuries consistent with blunt force trauma.

Walker joined the army in Sept 2004 and was stationed at Ft. Riley in Dec. 2008. She was from Cincinatti, OH. 11 News talked with a spokesperson with Ft. Riley and they didn't know why she would have been in Colorado Springs.

Twenty-four-year-old Fort Carson soldier Montrell Mayo is facing first degree murder charges in her death. Authorities say he turned himself in to investigators in Greenville, North Carolina Sunday afternoon.

A Fort Carson spokesperson told us Mayo is a supply specialist with the 759th Military Police Battalion.

At first, investigators were calling the death suspicious; they now accuse Mayo of killing her. Greenville police said it was Springs police who issued a warrant and tipped them off that Mayo was in their area.

Mayo is reportedly from Greenville and has family there. He's being held in North Carolina without bond until he is brought back to Colorado. Police aren't confirming details on how the suspect knew the victim, but it seems they had some kind of relationship.

CSPD detectives are headed out to Greenville to continue their investigation.

This is the seventh homicide in Colorado Springs in 2013.

Editor's Note: It was originally reported that Mayo is a police officer with the 759th. He is actually a supply specialist with that battalion. We have corrected the story.
