A woman was able to escape an alleged rape attempt Saturday morning, but police say the suspect got away before officers arrived.
An active warrant is now out for the suspect, who police have identified as 35-year-old Jermaine Antonetty.
According to police, Antonetty and the 19-year-old victim had met Friday night. Antonetty reportedly gave the victim his room number at America's Best Inn and invited her to come hang out.
Around 1:17 a.m., the front desk clerk heard a woman screaming for help and called 911. The victim ran up to the front desk a moment later and told the clerk that she had almost been raped.
Based on the victim's account, police say that while Antonetty and the victim were hanging out, Antonetty started touching her inappropriately. He allegedly demanded sex and the victim said no. Police say he then pinned her to the bed and tried to sexually assault her. He also used "force, threats and intimidation" to take several valuable items from her, according to Springs police.
Antonetty is described as a 5-foot-10 and 220 pound black male with black hair and brown eyes. He has a goatee and a tattoo on his back. He was wearing all black at the time of the incident.
The hotel is located at 430 W. Garden of the Gods Rd.
If you have any information about this incident, you are asked to call police immediately.
