A woman accused of abusing her elderly mother pleaded guilty Monday.
In January, Yuta Hagio, 98, was found dead inside the filthy bathroom of a condemned home. Investigators say she had been laying in the same spot on the floor for weeks before she died.
Investigators charged Hagio's daughter, 66-year-old Jeanne Hagio, with neglect and crimes against at risk adults.
According to arrest papers, the home was filled with trash 3 feet deep and rodent feces. There were also a number of dogs and cats in the house.
Investigators said that Hagio admitted that she had not changed her mother's clothes for a month, and had not bathed or showered her in two months. She reportedly admitted that her mother had not seen a doctor, in spite of her failing health. Hagio reportedly saw nothing wrong with the care she was giving her mother.
The younger Hagio pleaded guilty and received a four-year deferred sentence and unsupervised probation. She will also have to complete 100 hours of community service and a victim empathy course.
Jeanne Hagio will also have to undergo an animal cruelty evaluation.
