Firefighters have fully contained a small fire burning west of Golden, just one day after it was first reported.

The fire, dubbed the Glencoe Valley Fire after its location on Glencoe Valley Road, has burned 6 acres.

The fire forced a three-hour evacuation Monday after it grew from 1 acre to several. Smoke from the fire grew so thick at one point, people in Denver could see it. Residents in more than 200 homes in Blue Mountain Estates evacuated at 5 p.m. and were allowed to return home by 8 p.m.

Five agencies are battling the blaze. Water drops were also conducted by helicopter Monday using water from Ralston Reservoir. Jefferson County says 41 drops were made, using about 12,500 gallons of water. Helicopter drops are not planned for Tuesday.
