We haven't been afraid to open our wallets for Halloween celebrations this year.
With the tough economy, retail stores weren't sure what to expect from their customers. They have been pleasantly surprised--new numbers are revealing that no matter what the shape of the economy, people are going to spend money to celebrate Halloween.
According to the National Retail Federation in the U.S., Halloween has made retailers billions of dollars. In 2011, consumers spent $6.86 billion on Halloween overall. Of that, $5.2 billion was spent on costumes, $2 billion on candy, and $1.88 billion on decorations. Sixty-eight percent of people surveyed said they would be celebrating Halloween, up from 63 percent last year.
